My name is Calvin. As a supporter of religious freedom and freethinking, I support the FreeBYU movement. College is about finding one’s self and being able to express one’s ideas without the fear of retribution. However, this is not the case for LDS students who decide to leave the church while attending BYU. This is due to the required honor code these students often sign at the young age of 17 or 18. The honor code at BYU violates the first amendment in my opinion, because a student losing his or her job, housing, and enrollment in the university for having a change of faith is not what this country and constitution is about. Let the students who no longer believe in the LDS faith not be coerced into hiding their change of faith, let them pay the higher tuition that non-LDS students at BYU pay.
